Lake Keowee is located primarily in Oconee County in the Northwestern corner of South Carolina frequently referred to as Upstate or Upcountry South Carolina. The nearest towns are: Seneca, Salem, Clemson, Walhalla and Westminster, South Carolina (All less than 10 miles from Keowee Lake). Highlands, Cashiers, Sapphire, and Brevard, North Carolina are all within 30 miles. Toccoa, Georgia is about 27 miles. (Click here to order a map of Keowee) Lake Keowee was built on the Keowee and Little Rivers by Duke Energy in 1971 as part of the Keowee-Toxaway Project. Keowee provides a cooling reservoir for Duke's Oconee Nuclear Station. Keowee also serves as a source of drinking water for Greenville and Seneca. Keowee Lake features 18,500 acres of "blue" water, 300 miles of shoreline, and great views of the Blue Ridge mountains. Full pool elevation is 800' msl., Maximum depth is 297', and the average depth is 54'. Lake Keowee is 23 miles in length over 3 miles wide at its widest point. Lake Keowee has 9 public access boat ramps and one full service Marina. |

South Cove Park is located on the clear waters of Lake
Keowee, South Cove County Park offers a variety of day use facilities as
well as lakeside camping. Fishing, boating, sailing and water skiing are
readily accessible via two park boat ramps. |

High Falls Park is
nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains on the beautiful waters of
Lake Keowee. This 44 acre park serves as a gateway to a
variety of recreational activities. The Alexander/Canon/Hill House, built in 1830, is one of the last remaining pieces of the
Oconee County area history.
